We created Turingo with a simple mission: let the writing process, not just the final document, tell the authorship story.
As many educators and institutions have recognized over the years, a final document alone cannot prove who wrote it. AI detectors that score finished text produce unverifiable verdicts. A better alternative is to replay the actual writing process to see how the document evolved. However, this approach is only as good as the replay itself, so we put a lot of effort into making the replay match the original document.
As educators ourselves, we have always believed that this technology should also be easy to use. Yet existing tools make replaying a document hard: educators had to install an extension, create an account, open the document and then switch to a separate service to see the replay. Today, we are happy to share our work with everyone by releasing the free Turingo Replayer. There is no extension to install and no Turingo account to create. Just choose a document, press play and watch its writing process unfold, looking exactly as the original did.
A replay that looks like the real document
Existing tools, such as Draftback and GPTZero, not only require Chrome extensions to replay a document, but also reduce the document to plain text, removing its original formatting and structure.
We believe this makes the writing process hard to understand. After all, formatting is part of how a document develops. Headings are reorganized, lists evolve, tables are built and images are added as ideas take shape.
By contrast, Turingo replays the document as it actually appeared in Google Docs, giving you the full view of the writing process.
Choose a document and press play
The free Turingo Replayer is a regular web application. All you have to do is to select a Google Doc through the official Google Picker and Turingo will open the document replay without leaving the application. You can watch the entire writing process unfold, word by word. You can inspect the replay at your own pace by pausing at any moment or moving backwards and forwards through its history.
For the initial release, we are limiting the number of documents you can replay: up to five documents per day, without registering or providing a credit card.
We take privacy seriously. Turingo only accesses and stores the revision history of the documents you select, and all related data is removed after 24 hours.
